Microsoft planning to release a new software for virtualization to compete with VMware. Microsoft Corp will release free software that allows multiple operating systems to run at the same time on a single server computer. The Hyper-V software will be available for download within 30 days, Microsoft said in a statement.
The company released Hyper-V in June as part of Windows Server 2008. Today’s program is the standalone version. Microsoft wants to carve out a larger slice of the so-called virtualisation software market, which is dominated by VMware.

What is Hyper-v?
Hyper-V, previously codenamed Viridian, is a hypervisor-based technology that is a key feature of Windows Server 2008. It provides a scalable, reliable, and highly available virtualization platform. It is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to provide customers and partners with the best operating system platform for virtualization.
