Samsung launched five new phones including a model made from recycled plastic with a solar panel on the back for charging during the Mobile World Congress 2009. Samsung’s Blue Earth solar cell phone was showcased at Mobile World Congress 2009 with the slogan: “The Blue Earth Dream: Eco-living with Samsung mobile.” Samsung’s Blue Earth is the first solar powered touch screen phone ever in the history of mobile phones.

One other highlight of this alluring model is that it is the first ever cell phone to use recycled plastics for its outer cover and recycled solar cells to generate required power. In view of encouraging green earth, the company uses PCM the plastics recycled from water bottles. The Blue Earth solar cell phone with ergonomic design has solar panels at the backside which can generate enough power to operate the cell phone any time.

The phone has a unique ‘eco walk function’ that counts your steps using an inbuilt pedometer, and reveals the number of trees that have been saved by avoiding motor transport. Even the Samsung Blue Earth’s packaging is made from recycled paper to emphasize the necessity of eco-friendly products and the charger of the phone seems to use less than 0.03W in standby mode conserving energy and promoting green world.
