The Into Windows Phone social rewards programme kicks off in the UK on Monday and will see lucky winners pocket Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phones and an arctic adventure for two people to Finland. The software giant has created a unique application for Windows Phone 7 to accompany the programme. The into Windows Phone app will allow friends to demonstrate the best bits of Windows Phone through the application. The app works by allowing a friend to sign into it using their Facebook account. Into Windows Phone will then integrate a friends information into a several virtual Windows Phone features.

Microsoft has included three “best bits” of Windows Phone in the application and each is worth 50 points towards the programme. There’s the People Hub view which allows friends to explore how their Facebook contacts would be displayed if they owned a Windows Phone. There’s also a Groups feature that allows a friend to setup their own group of friends from their Facebook contacts to see how the feature works. The final virtual Windows Phone feature is picture tagging. Microsoft has included some pre-selected images to demonstrate how this works instead of pulling down friends pictures. The application will wipe a friends information as soon as it’s closed or a user selects the log off action within the app.

Microsoft is teaming up with Alex James, an English musician, songwriter and cheese maker who is best known as the bass player in Blur. James is the figurehead for the program and creative director. Windows Phone fans will be rewarded with unique content that James has handpicked. Microsoft has also selected a number of special Into Windows Phone insiders who have been provided a Nokia Lumia 800 over the past few weeks. James will also host an into Windows Phone insider social event in December that includes the insiders and competition winners.

The unique Windows Phone feature demo application looks set to be the first of its kind as Microsoft pursues different ways to market Windows Phone. We asked Nick Hedderman, Head of Consumer Marketing for Windows Phone UK, whether such an application could be used on demo devices in retailers. Hedderman explained that it was early days and Microsoft is looking to see how it lands before making any decisions to expand the application.

You read that right and that’s Windows 8, not Windows Mobile 8, as in the real desktop deal. Microsoft has offered the first glimpse of the next incarnation of its flagship OS during the D9 keynote and it’s pretty much what everyone expected… Windows Phone 7. Or rather, its touch-oriented interface, which Microsoft has deeply integrated into the fledgling Windows 8.

The application environment is set to change as well, with HTML5 and Javascript-based web applications given free rein alongside traditional desktop apps. Windows 8 will apparently spearhead Microsoft’s big tablet push as well as landing on laptops and desktops. In fact, from where we’re sitting, seeing it merge with Windows Phone 7 at a certain point ice Cream Sandwich-style doesn’t seem all that far-fetched. As previously reported, the OS will support both ARM and x86 processors and will come with its very own App Store. Not a flying car in sight, but you have to admit it still feels like the future.

A new feature has been found within the leaked Windows 8 software uncovered earlier this week, that will allow the new Windows 8 operating system to run from an external USB flash drive. The ‘Portable Workspace’ feature discovered within the new Windows 8 software allows a user to create copies of Windows 8 and run them from a 16GB or larger USB drive.

The exact specifications of the new feature and how copies are created are still a little thin on the ground at the moment, but certain specification drives might be required to carry the Windows 8 copies, and the Portable Workspace feature might only be available to Enterprise customers when Windows 8 officially starts to ship.

It would great for users and a great selling point for Microsoft to enable the portable Windows 8 feature on all version of their new Windows 8 operating system.

One thing the new discoveries do suggest its that Microsoft is working hard to add a number of exciting new features to its next-generation Windows 8 release. The feature was discovered in the Enterprise Windows 8 build 7850.0.winmain_win8m1.100922-1508 which was discovered by the My Digital Life.

Microsoft have been dominating the operating system market since the PC was first released. The company creator Bill Gates has been at the edge of cutting technology right from the forefront. Nowadays Windows is the only operating system that is used on PCs, almost every computer comes pre bundled with the whole Microsoft package.

No one has even dared to launch an operating system for one of two reasons, the first being that they are very complex to program and build and the second is that no one could really compete with the billions of dollars and partnerships that Microsoft has created over numerous years.

But things could now be changing, because as we know there is another billion dollar company around the corner and that is Google. Google have indicated that they will be creating a new operating system for PC’s. They went on to say that by mid 2010 the operating system could be on sale to the vast majority of people.

Google have said that they are going back to basics with their operating systems stating that, “We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you on to the web in a few seconds,” said the blog post written by Sundar Pichai, vice-president of product management, and Google’s engineering director Linus Upson.

Google have also indicated that operating systems have never really been designed to be used for the internet, so now they will make internet access and web based programs faster and easier to use then ever before.

I personally feel that Microsoft could be getting a bit scared, we already know that Google are one of the largest companies in the world, they also have a huge amount of web based applications. They are going to be creating this operating system from scratch, so they will be able to structure it around the current way in which users use computers. Google want to bring everything online and allow people to access their documents and work from any computer, for so long people have relied on their hard drives which then crash and make you lose everything. Google will be making everything and anything web based, which will also ultimately help their search engine in the future.

This will be one battle that a lot of tech guru’s simply will not want to miss, there may be room for only one operating system.

Microsoft Corp will release free software that allows multiple operating systems to run at the same time on a single server computer. The Hyper-V software will be available for download within 30 days, Microsoft said in a statement.

The company released Hyper-V in June as part of Windows Server 2008. Today’s program is the standalone version. Microsoft wants to carve out a larger slice of the so-called virtualisation software market, which is dominated by VMware.

Hyper-V, previously codenamed Viridian, is a hypervisor-based technology that is a key feature of Windows Server 2008. It provides a scalable, reliable, and highly available virtualization platform. It is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to provide customers and partners with the best operating system platform for virtualization.

Trouble shooting your PC is much easier than you could imagine. A few tips could enlighten you about maintaining your PC with out spending a dime on PC maintenance services. Some of the most common problems faced by the PC owners include the slowing down of PC’s speed, system getting hanged often, and at times OS getting corrupted.

Increase your PC’s speed
The causes for the slowdown of your PC are many. A few simple maintenance tactics can speed up your system like a new one. First free the disk space using the disk clean up option. Then uninstall any of the unused programs that take up considerable amount of system resources making the system function slower. Defragmentation of your hard disks must be done on a regular basis in order to maintain the speed of your PC. You should also check for spyware using tools like the windows defender tool because spyware not only slows down the speed but also collects your personal data for third parties. Surprisingly you can find all of the tools required to perform the above tasks come along the windows.

System getting hanged.
If your system gets hanged often there could be several problems, for example space constrains and unwanted programs using up system resources. Even bad sectors on your hard disk can stop your PC from functioning properly. You can free the space and the system resources using the disk clean up and by uninstalling unnecessary programs as mentioned above. Whereas, the bad sector problem on you hard disk can be corrected using the scan disk software that checks the surface of the hard disks and fixes most possible errors. Once you perform these checks your system can provide you with a pleasant working environment.

Maintenance of your PC
While the above problems can be fixed by a novice there are also a few problems that needs a little bit of skill to make your PC work. A little knowledge of anti virus software and installing OS would be of great help when it comes to fixing major problem of your system. If your system gets hanged often or refuses to boot then there are two possibilities. Either your operating system has been corrupted or your PC has a virus in it.
It is wise to first check for any viruses using the latest anti-virus software. If your system looks clean, then you will have to reinstall your operating system. You can reinstall your operating system yourself easily by following the instructions that appear on your screen.

Functioning of PC can be affected if dust gets accumulated in the CPU. It is easy to clean your CPU if you have a vacuum cleaner or an air blower. Turn of the power and disconnect the plugs and then open the cabinet door and suck the dust with your vacuum cleaner, then you can remove the RAM chips by loosing the clips that hold them and wipe them clean with a dry cloth and replace them firmly. Once you are done close the cabinet and tighten the screws. Clean any dust on the monitor and on the key board using your vacuum cleaner and with a damp cloth. Connect the plug and switch on the PC. Your pc will not only look great but also perform excellently.
